Converting your household waste into Green energy
The average household in the UK uses just over 2 kilowatt of energy each year and generates around half a tonne of waste every year. Working with industry, the UK is looking for ways to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and sending waste to landfill.
The Biossence Hooton Park Facility will address the area's energy generation and waste disposal issues by converting pre-treated household and commercial waste into green energy.
Waste thrown away by Merseyside residents contains valuable energy, most of which is renewable. Even after recycling, composting and further treatment, energy can be safely recovered from this waste.
Biossence has been granted planning permission to develop a new Sustainable Energy Facility in Eastham. The facility will use a thermal treatment called gasification to convert the waste left after recycling into enough electricity to power more than 40,000 homes a year once the facility is fully built out.
